The Nervous Parents Meet with Teacher

She was the teacher’s little pet peach — but not so much at home.

I got this question pretty often. How is it that you present my child as stellar but at home they test me and throw tantrums for me?

I told the parents that their child wasn’t sure about me. I was relatively new and untested by her. Her comfort level was not there yet. Their kiddo was in tip-toe mode.

The parent teacher conference was not one that I’d anticipated would have any kind of issues or real questions. The little munchkin student was bright and teachable and gave me no resistance. She was a good friend, and she was obviously propped up with lots of love and preparedness from home.

All children are lovable, but she was the tiny scholar that was beyond easy to love, the proverbial piece of cake. She was the sweet little teacher’s pet peach. You get the picture…

There appeared to be no potential roadblocks for a smooth little conference, with benchmarks checked off and cooperative day-to-day objectives ticked off. “Keep up the good work,” and off they go!

I gave the floor to the parents — any questions? (I’m thinking probably not.)

When suddenly they shifted into gear, they couldn’t contain themselves one more…
